The Keysight N7786C includes a high-speed lithium niobate polarization controller and a polarization analyzer that monitors the output signal and provides feedback to the controller. The instrument supports a variety of operating modes:
1. Polarization stabilizer: Even if the input SOP fluctuates and drifts, it can still provide a stable output polarization state (SOP), suitable for standard single-mode fiber (SMF). The output SOP can be defined in the following ways:
· After activating the "(set-and-forget)" switch, the device will maintain the current SOP even if the input changes.
· Define the target output SOP using Stokes parameters and set these parameters with polarization analyzer feedback.
· Switching output SOP with selected code type, cycle speed up to 100 kSOPs/s.
2. SOP switch: cyclic switching SOP sequence at a rate of more than 40 kHz. The internally set stabilizer function ensures fast direct switching in just a few microseconds and synchronizes with external events via electronically triggered inputs.
3. Traditional scrambler: Randomly change the output SOP to cover the entire Poincare ball in just a few milliseconds.
4. Polarization analyzer: provides sampling up to 1 MSa at a sampling rate of up to 1 MSa/s, ensuring true high-speed functionality.
5. Fast switching polarization controller: can be used in combination with the Optical Communication Application software suite (PAS) for single sweep wavelength-dependent PDL measurement.
The versatile and high-speed nature of the N7786C makes it ideal for optical polarization measurement and control.
